making a difference in food inequity
Millions of families in America go hungry every year. Help us provide them with enough to eat.
At The Helpful Kitchen, we strive to provide for those who face food insecurity, while inspiring youth across the country to stand up for their communities and make an active change.
Food insecurity has always been a major problem across America, and the COVID-19 pandemic has severely worsened the issue. Unfortunately, over 49 million Americans suffer from food insecurity largely due to financial hardship.
In normal times, the many food pantries of America would help supply the hungry with donated food. Most of these pantries’ food supply would come from food drives held in populous locations like schools, community centers, and churches. But because many of these places have closed from the pandemic, food pantries are struggling more than ever to help their surrounding communities.
In New York City, food insecurity has increased over 30% since the beginning of the pandemic. Many of our food pantries are nearly empty, so we have developed a solution to provide our food pantries with the donations they need. Learn more about the issue from these articles.
