Food insecurity has always been a major problem across America, and the COVID-19 pandemic highlighted the issue. Unfortunately, over 41 million Americans suffer from food insecurity largely due to financial hardship.

Hunger

In normal times, food pantries across America help supply the hungry with donated food. A large amount of the food comes from food drives held in populous locations, for example, schools, community centers, and churches. The Helpful Kitchen does its part in addressing this issue by motivating people to donate.

Insecurity

For example, in New York State 11% of the population is food insecure. Approximately, 50% live in NYC, and this number was expected to rise by almost 40 percent during the pandemic.

Since 1983, NYC food banks have provided over 1.3 billion meals to its residents. In 2022, grocery store prices increased by 9% in New York. The issue continues, and we must work together to alleviate hunger.
